What to Expect at a Needle Exchange:

  • You’ll be greeted by one of our staff members behind the counter.
  • Let us know what you need — we’ll get the right equipment for you.
  • We can help you figure out what’s best for your needs and offer advice on safer injection techniques.
  • You can now take what you need. There’s no limit – within reason. We encourage you to get enough to stay safe and to bring in your returns for safe disposal .
  • We don’t record names or link anything back to you.

Important Update:

The one-for-one policy (where you could only get as many new needles as you brought back) is no longer in effect. This change reflects updated Health NZ policy.

You can now take what you need — within reason. There’s no limit. We encourage you to get enough to stay safe and to bring in your returns for safe disposal.

“We try to cater to anything someone might need. There’s quite a selection, even in the vending machines.”

Need Extra Help?

If you need support beyond harm reduction — like help with a GP, housing, a wound that’s not healing, or seeing a dentist — we’re here to help by providing information about health and social care services.

Our staff can refer you to services that understand your needs. Whether it’s social housing referrals, health checks, or other community-based services, we’ll work with you to find the right people.

“Sometimes people don’t know where to start. We can help make those first steps easier — and make sure you’re not doing it alone.”
